Royal Enfield Enters Indonesia With Made-in-India Motorcycles

Royal Enfield today announced its entry in the Indonesian market at Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2015. The move is part of the bikemaker's strategy for global growth strategy and also pushing the expansion of the mid-sized motorcycle segment(250cc-750cc) across the globe.

Abhijit Singh Brar, Head - Marketing, Royal Enfield, said, "As leisure motorcycling is getting extreme all over the world, we at Royal Enfield believe that we can create a wonderful space that's more approachable and unintimidating. Indonesia already has an established leisure motorcycling culture with the presence of several riding communities and enthusiasts. At Royal Enfield, we believe that the core of motorcycling is exploration and adventure and our motorcycles will lend extremely well to the country's beautiful terrain and lovely coastline, encouraging more and more people to ride out."

Royal Enfield presented the Bullet 500, the Classic 500, the Classic Chrome, and the Continental GT among other motorcycles at the GIIAS 2015.

The company said it will soon commence retail operations in Indonesia via its exclusive dealership in Jakarta. The aforementioned dealership will be set up in partnership with PT Distributor Motor Indonesia. Other than the retail store, the partnership will also look at establishing service and aftermarket capability for Royal Enfield in Jakarta.
Considering the fact that the company will only be setting up retail, service and aftermarket operations in Indonesia, we suppose it is safe to say that the bikemaker will export motorcycles from India - at least till it sets up a production facility there.
