Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Rolls Out 15 Lakh Vehicles From Domestic Manufacturing Plants

- SAVWIPL has rolled out 15 lakh units from its Indian facilities
- Includes brands like VW, Skoda, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini.
- The number includes 5.45 lakh export units
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL), has achieved a landmark production milestone as it rolled out its 15 lakh vehicles from its Indian manufacturing facilities. The Volkswagen Group company manages the India operations for brands like VW, Skoda, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini. The brand has two facilities in India located in Pune and Aurangabad, and the 15,00,000th vehicle to rollout was the Skoda Kushaq produced at the company's Chakan plant in Pune. While the Pune facility caters to locally built produced models, the Aurangabad plant is where SAVWIPL locally assembles cars that arrive as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits.

Skoda Slavia was recently launched in India, replacing the outgoing Rapid compact sedan

The 15 lakh production milestone not only includes local demand but export volumes as well, which includes 5.45 lakh exports. The VW Group has been exporting a host of models over the years that included the Polo, Vento, and more recently the T-Cross. The upcoming Virtus will also be exported from India to different markets. The manufacturing facilities not only built right-hand drive cars but left-hand drive vehicles as well.

Skoda Auto has been present in India for over two decades now and the VW brand is a little over a decade old. The automakers have been retailing mass market and premium offerings in the country, while brands like Audi and Porsche have the luxury and performance market covered. Meanwhile, Lamborghini operates in the super luxury car space and recently delivered its 400th vehicle in India, a massive feat considering the niche segment.

SAVWIPL is now looking to garner even better volumes with its India 2.0 strategy. This will be driven by models like the Kushaq and Slavia from Skoda, and the Taigun and Virtus from VW. A subcompact SUV is also said to be in the offing and could be the automakers' new entry-level model.
