Tata Motors Hikes Car Prices Across Range in India by Up to Rs. 35,000

As per the latest Union budget for the upcoming fiscal, additional taxes up to 4 per cent have been levied upon cars and SUVs in India. While vehicles over 10 lakh will see a cess of 1 per cent, high capacity engine cars and SUVs will come with an added cess of 4 per cent. Furthermore, 1 per cent infrastructure cess will be levied on small petrol and CNG cars of length not exceeding 4 meter and engine capacity not exceeding 1,200cc. On the other hand 2.5 per cent cess will be imposed on diesel vehicles of length not exceeding 4 meter and engine capacity not exceeding 1,500cc. At the same time higher engine capacity and SUVs and sedans will come with a cess of 4 per cent on the value of the car.

Commenting on the price hike a Tata Motors Spokesperson has mentioned that, "In line with the cess levies from the Budget announcement, we are increasing the prices of our passenger vehicles with immediate effect." Currently Tata Motors sells a range of passenger vehicles, ranging from entry-level small car Nano to premium crossover Aria, priced between Rs 2.04 lakh and Rs Rs 15.79 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Tata isn't the only carmaker who has reacted to the latest budget 2016 by increasing car prices. In fact after the budget announcement country's second largest carmaker Hyundai Motor India had said that it plans to hike vehicle prices too. The company is planning to increase the price across range starting from Rs. 3,000 to Rs 80,000. At the same time Honda Cars India too announced its plans to increase prices of cars up to Rs. 80,000.
