Tokyo Motor Show 2017: Retro Styled Suzuki SV650X Unveiled

- The headlamp cowl on the Suzuki SV650X adds the retro appeal
- Power on the SV650X comes from the 649 cc V-Twin engine
- The SV650X shares a host of components with the standard SV650 naked
The ongoing 2017 Tokyo Motor Show has some very interesting exhibits on display and bringing in the retro cool quotient is the new Suzuki SV650X concept for the show. The new SV650X is based on the highly popular 2017 SV650 middleweight street-fighter motorcycle sold in the US, but gets new retro styling coupled with a modern engine and frame. The bike maker says the new SV650X is an evolution of the SV650 Rally Concept that was showcased at the Tokyo Motorcycle Show in 2016.

The new Suzuki SV650X adds the retro touch with the headlight cowl with two auxiliary LED lamps flanked on either side. The fuel tank design is identical to the production bike but gets new tank extensions on the SV650X. The stitched leather seat compliments the retro design theme and comes and gets a rear seat cowl as well. The remainder of the bike remains identical to the standard model with telescopic forks up front and a monoshock suspension at the rear.
While Suzuki hasn't revealed the power output on the SV650X, the bike is expected borrow power from the same 649 cc 90-degree V-Twin engine that powers the standard version. The four-stroke, liquid-cooled motor makes around 75 bhp at 8500 rpm and 64 Nm of peak torque at 8100 rpm. Braking performance comes from twin discs up front and a single disc at the rear, while ABS is offered as standard.

Although not confirmed for production, Suzuki said it will be gauging interest from the spectators at the Tokyo Motor Show before a decision is taken on putting the SV650X on sale. We certainly hope Suzuki India considers bringing the SV650 and its host of other middleweight offerings to India soon.
