Toyota Fortuner's New Variant Gets Innova's Engine

Toyota India that launched the top-of-the-line variant of the Fortuner, the 3.0 4x4 AT, has also launched a new trim with a smaller engine. Available in both manual and automatic transmission options, the new trim derives its power from a 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel unit that also powers the Innova. Since it's a low-spec model, it is offered only with the rear-wheel drive option and not with a 4x4 option. While the 2.5L manual version is priced at Rs 24.44 lakh, the model with automatic transmission costs Rs 25.44 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Despite having a smaller engine, the Fortuner 2.5L costs more than the entry-level 3.0L variants. This is due to the TRD (Toyota Racing Development) Sportivo body package offered with the new trim. Just so you know the 3.0L 4x2 manual and 4x2 automatic costs Rs 24.26 lakh and 25.26 lakh.
As mentioned earlier, the new trim features the same, 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel, engine that also powers the Innova; but it is tuned to offer more power output and torque. It churns out a maximum power output of 142bhp and 343Nm of peak torque. As part of the TRD Sportivo package, the new trim gets a dual-tone radiator grille, rear spoiler, body graphics and side skirts. That said, the 2.5L model gets halogens instead of HID.
Other standard features offered with the 2.5L trim are leather seats, electrically adjustable driver's seat, climate control, multi-functional steering wheel, reverse parking camera, touchscreen for music system. As far as the safety features are concerned, the vehicle gets dual airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brakeforce distribution system (EBD).
