Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Cars to Be Showcased at Auto Expo 2016

Maruti Suzuki has always actively participated in the Delhi Auto Expo and is going the whole hog this year. After showcasing 3 new cars along with some other facelifts and updated models at the last expo, India's biggest carmaker is now upping the ante for the 2016 edition. A wide range of new models will be showcased by the company which are likely to go on sale in the 2016-17 fiscal itself.
Here's a list of 5 upcoming Maruti Suzuki cars which will be displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo in February:
1) Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza (YBA)

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza (codename YBA) compact SUV is one of the most eagerly awaited cars that is set to arrive in India this year. The Vitara Brezza will mark Maruti's entry into the fast growing compact SUV market. Chief Engineer of the Brezza, Mr CV Raman, is the first Indian to head a model project for an automobile MNC. Test mules of the compact SUV have been spotted on many occasions across the country showing just how much extensive testing Maruti has put into creating this new compact SUV. The Vitara Brezza is likely to borrow powertrain options from the Swift which includes the 1.2-litre K-Series VVT petrol engine and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel motor, both of which are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Given the current market trend, there is also a possibility of Maruti offering the car with an optional 4-speed AMT unit.

2) Maruti Suzuki Ignis

Based on the iM-4 concept, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis was first showcased at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. The car comes with a crossover like appearance with an aggressive front fascia, flared wheel arches, sporty character lines, and a tall boy stance. The India-spec version of the car will most likely come with the same powertrains as the Swift and Baleno with an optional AMT unit, whereas the international model will get the 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine with SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology and a CVT unit as an option. Both models will be manufactured in India and will probably go on sale around the festive season. More information about the car will be revealed at the 2016 Auto Expo.

Maruti has confirmed that it will in fact be launching a more powerful version of its Baleno called the Baleno RS. The RS variant will be powered by a 1.0-litre BoosterJet petrol engine with a Direct-Injection Turbo. Reports suggest that the 3-pot engine will output in excess of 100bhp. In a press release, the company also stated that the Baleno RS would feature 'a bold and aggressive design language' to go with its exhilarating new engine.
4) Maruti Suzuki WagonR 7-Seater

It was back in 2013, when Suzuki first unveiled the 7-seater WagonR codenamed as YJC. Now nearly after 3 years, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR 7 seater is finally set to hit the Indian market in coming fiscal. The car will be a sub-4 metre MPV and will be positioned below the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in India to go up against the Datsun GO Plus. The car has already been imported to India for testing and homologation, which further confirms its launch in the Indian car market.
5) Maruti Suzuki Alto Diesel

Maruti Suzuki has been toying over the idea of a diesel powered Alto for quite some time now. The Alto has been the best-selling car in India for over a decade now and it still continues to be a firm favourite when it comes to entry level hatchbacks. That being said, with growing competition, Maruti wants to further strengthen its foothold as the undisputed segment leader. And a diesel Alto seems to be the right product to achieve this. The car will most likely be showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. What we can tell you for certain is that the Alto diesel will come powered by the same 793cc unit that powers the Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel.
