Images of the upcoming Toyota Hilux have surfaced online, and the lifestyle pick-up truck was spotted during a television commercial shoot in India. As the Japanese carmaker is shooting TV commercials, the India launch of the pick-up truck seems to be imminent. We expect the Toyota Hilux to be launched in India by early 2022, possibly even as early as January 2022. The new images give a better understanding of what to expect from the upcoming pick-up truck. It is likely to be offered as a double-cab variant.

The upcoming Hilux is likely to be based on the Toyota Fortuner's IMV-2 platform

The Toyota Hilux will be based on the IMV-2 platform that underpins the Innova Crysta and the Fortuner. The pick-up truck sports a different front design with a larger hexagonal grille, sweptback LED headlamps with LED DRLs, new bumper, 18-inch alloy wheels, flared wheel arches, side-step, body cladding, and LED taillight. On the inside, the Hilux is likely to get an all-black cabin with features like leather upholstery, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated seats, cruise control, eight-way electrically adjustable front seats, connected car tech, and more.

The powertrain details of the Toyota Hilux are still under wraps. However, the pick-up truck is likely to be powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine that develops 201 bhp and 420 Nm of peak torque. The automatic variant makes 500 Nm of peak torque. The carmaker could introduce both 4x2 and 4x4 versions to cater to different customer requirements.

There is no official word about the launch timeline of the Hilux. Considering that the carmaker is shooting the TVC, it is expected to happen very soon. The pick-up truck is likely to be priced around Rs. 25 lakh (ex-showroom). The Hilux will be locally assembled at Toyota's Bidadi plant in Karnataka. When launched, it will take on the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross in the segment.
