Volvo Discreetly Introduces The New 2D Iron Mark Logo

- The new Volvo Iron Mark logo is minimalist & will be easy to replicate
- Volvo previously used a 3D logo finished in silver and blue colours
- The new logo is likely to show up on cars from 2023 onwards
Volvo is the latest automaker to update its logo and join the 2D bandwagon in a new and simplified look. The iconic Iron Mark logo sheds the 3D design for a flat look, which will be easy to replicate across physical and digital mediums. Interestingly, Volvo has been rather discreet about its logo silently dropping the images without any explanation. The company's social media handles too now use the new two-dimensional logo. Previously, other automakers including Volkswagen, BMW, Renault, Nissan among others shifted to 2D logos representing a new era of mobility.

The Iron Mark logo is minimalist and instantly recognisable and features a hollow circle with a diagonal arrow at the right. The horizontal bar has been removed with the Volvo name now placed independently in the centre. The Iron Mark logo was first used in the 1930s, while the first Volvo logo was introduced in 1927 on the OV 4 car. Since then, the logo has seen a number of updates with the most recent one coming in 2016.

The new Volvo logo looks reminiscent of the Iron Mark logo from the 1950s
The new 2D logo will be the Scandinavian automaker's seventh iteration in the company's 97-year history. While Volvo has not shared details on the use of the logo, reports suggest that the automaker is expected to introduce the same on a wide range of vehicles in a phased manner. The new logo is likely to start appearing on all products sometime in 2023.

At home, the automaker has been gearing up to introduce its first electric car in India, the Volvo XC40 Recharge. The model was originally slated to arrive this year and was even showcased in the first quarter. However, the pandemic pushed the company's plans to 2022 to introduce the electric SUV. Volvo Cars also confirmed recently that it plans to go leather-free on its pure electric cars soon.
