Will Maruti Launch New Swift and Dzire with AMT?

With the competition getting stiffer in compact sedan segment, Maruti Suzuki India might bring AMT version of the Swift Dzire in the domestic market. MSI is said to have scheduled the launch of tweaked Dzire and Swift hatchback by festive season. Speculations also suggest that Maruti could also equip its flagship Swift hatchback with the contemporary AMT gearbox, which might give both the cars a competitive edge over competitiors. We have already see how the AMT-equipped Maruti Celerio proven to be highly successful for MSI.
Dzire's sales have been slumping with growing competition in its segment. Launch of new entrants like Amaze and Xcent have shrunk sales of Dzire. The upcoming compact sedan from Tata Motors, Zest will also be spawned in AMT variant, most likely the diesel version of the vehicle will first be offered with AMT tranny followed by the petrol trim later. Similarly, Tata Bolt or Vista replacement is also expected to come with AMT option, however Bolt is likely to be launched during festive season and Zest is slated to be launched in the first week of July.

As mentioned earlier, the new vehicles in CS segment have already left a steep dent in Dzire's sales which dropped by 17 per cent to 16,008 units in April 2014 as compared to 19,446 units sold in the same time last year. With the new Zest AMT variant going to be introduced soon in India, MSI could witness a further slump in the Dzire's sales. Therefore, it would be a viable decision to bring in AMT variant of Dzire along with Swift, however there isn't any official word on the same.
Facelift versions of Swift twins are expected to don similar upgrades including LED head lights in the front, new wheel cover and a tweaked bumper. Few changes will be done inside the cabin too, however these will be most likely minor upgrades. Other than these, MSI could also equip some new equipment in the renewed Swift and Dzire like a new auto-up touch function for driver side power window, automatic head lights electronically adjustable OVRMs et. Mechanically, both the vehicles will remain same.
