World Environment Day 2021: 5 Upcoming Electric Two-Wheelers To Watch Out For

The electric two-wheeler segment is booming with options and they are so many more to come. With more mainstream two-wheeler players working on new products, the choices will be aplenty and that has us excited. So, on the occasion of World Environment Day 2021, we list down the top five electric scooters that you must watch out for. Some of these come from start-ups, while the others are from two-wheeler giants. What's certain though is that each of these offerings will help change the electric mobility game.

The Simple Energy Mark 2 electric scooter promises a top speed of 100 kmph and a range of 240 km
1. Simple Energy Mark 2
Bengaluru-based electric vehicle start-up Simple Energy will launch the company's flagship electric scooter on August 15, this year, coinciding with India's Independence Day. The company confirmed the development recently and the model promises a high-performance motor with long-range and sporty styling. Codenamed Mark 2, the long-range electric scooter will have a top speed of 100 kmph and a claimed range of 240 km in the Eco range. The company says 0-50 kmph will be achievable in 3.6 seconds. Moreover, prices for the upcoming electric scooter will be competitive starting at Rs. 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom).

2. Okinawa Oki100
Okinawa Autotech is getting ready to launch the Oki100 electric motorcycle later this year. The new electric motorcycle has dimensions of a mini-bike with a design that will remind you of the Ducati Monster and the offering promises a top speed of 100 kmph with a claimed range of 150 km on a single charge. Performance is expected to be comparable to a conventional 125 cc motorcycle. The Oki 100 is expected to be launched by July this year in the country and prices are likely to begin from Rs. 1 lakh (ex-showroom).

3. Suzuki Burgman Electric
After Bajaj and TVS, Suzuki Motor India will be the newest mainstream two-wheeler player to enter the electric vehicle segment. The company is planning to introduce the electrified version of the Burgman Street, and test mules of the electric scooter were spotted testing several times over the last few months. The Suzuki Burgman electric's design is almost identical to the internal combustion engine version, and the spy shots showcase a model that is almost production-ready. While Suzuki is yet to confirm details, the model could offer a top speed of around 70 mph and a range of 75-80 km on a single charge. Prices for the Suzuki Burgman Electric will start around Rs. 1-1.25 lakh (ex-showroom) and the launch could take place towards the end of the year.

4. Ola Electric Scooter
Ola Electric is also working on its upcoming electric scooter, which is expected to be launched later this year around the festive season. The new electric scooter is based on the Etergo Appscooter and carries a similar design. Ola is building the world's largest two-wheeler factory in Tamil Nadu with a production capacity of 10 million electric scooters per annum. The factory will not only cater to domestic demand but export operations as well. The upcoming electric scooter will come with a PMS motor, removable battery, and a range of 150 km on a single charge. It is also likely to get cloud connectivity and fast charging. Ola will also set up the world's largest EV charger network with 100,000 charging points in 400 cities over a period of time.

Hero MotoCorp has tied up with Taiwan-based Gogoro and will bring its first electric two-wheeler next year along with the latter's battery swapping technology
5. Hero MotoCorp Electric Scooter
Hero MotoCorp will finally enter the electric mobility segment in 2022 and the company has tied up with Taiwan-based Gogoro to further fuel its electric vehicle ambitions. The two-wheeler giant is developing its EV at its R&D centres in India and Germany and will introduce products with fixed and removable battery options. Gogoro will also bring its battery swapping platform to India under the collaboration. Details on the two-wheeler, performance, range and pricing are yet to be revealed.
