When you hear about 'beauty contests', it's only the pretty ladies that you think about. However, for automobile enthusiasts like us, the term used could mean something different. It's not always that you get to see the cars of yesteryear gather to walk the ramp and show off their curves. Thanks to the BMW Group Classic's two- day- long beauty contest for historic cars and motorcycles, this became a possibility.
It was on the banks of Lake Como in Munich that these beautiful cars got a chance to bask in the glory. It is not often that you get to see them as many collectors refrain from bringing out these classics. It is only in events like the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, which is in its eleventh edition, do they get to tread the ground. It's the only way to pay homage to a heritage that has spawned the vehicles of today.

Like other contests, there is a judging panel and at the end of the day, the 'Best of Show' award went to the Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Spider from 1932. The Ferrari 166M Barchetta from 1950 was awarded with the Coppa d'Oro Villa d'Este, while a very today's car (whose side profile is more Aston Martin-ish), the Bentley Exp 10 Speed Six coupe won the Concorso d'Eleganza Design Award. The Munch-4 TTS-E from 1973 stood out among the motorcycles and took top honours.
These beauties have had their share of recognition, but it is the connect between a car lover and the machine, which keeps the love intact. With events like this, it's not about the awards, it's more about marveling at these masterpieces, one more time!
