BMW reveals details of the Concept X5 eDrive

BMW has given out details of its latest Concept X5 eDrive ahead of the upcoming New York International Auto Show. BMW says that this 'Sports Activity Vehicle' is based on the new-gen X5 utility vehicle and swaps out a conventional drivetrain for a much more efficient plug-in hybrid unit.
The system consists of a 245bhp generating TwinPower four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor that adds 95bhp more. With its lithium-ion batteries fully charged, the Concept X5 eDrive can cover around 32 kms on pure electric power and can hit a top speed of 120km/h.
The capability of the BMW Concept X5 eDrive cannot be questioned and it is still pretty agile and quick as it goes from 0-100km/h in under 7 seconds. Like other modern BMWs, the Concept X5 eDrive comes equipped with a Driving Experience Control, which will allow the car to have different vehicle settings. In addition to the standard Comfort and Sport settings, the system also has an Eco Pro mode, which manages the X5's plug-in drivetrain in the most efficient manner.
The driver can switch to all-electric mode with the push of a button and the Concept X5 eDrive also has a Save Battery mode, which deliberately saves the battery's charge for use at a later time. Despite having its batteries mounted below the rear cargo floor, there is enough of space at the rear for your luggage. BMW hasn't announced any official production plans for the Concept X5 eDrive, but considering BMW's plans we might see it hitting the showrooms soon.
