Car Sales January 2022: MG Motor India Records 69 Per Cent Growth Over December 2021

- MG Motor India retailed 4,306 units in January 2022.
- Registered a growth of 20 per cent over the corresponding month last year
- Records a substantial growth of 69 per cent.
MG Motor India retailed 4,306 units in January 2022, registering a growth of 20 per cent over the corresponding month last year, although supply remained affected due to the ongoing global semiconductor shortage, leading to reduced production. Compared to the sales in December 2021, the company has recorded a substantial growth of 69 per cent. Nevertheless, MG Motor believes the situation to improve in the coming months, as it garnered an overwhelming response to the MG Astor, besides, Hector and Gloster continue to exhibit good sales trends in their respective segments.

The company also announced that the MG ZS EV has completed two years in the Indian market and continues to be a success for the company. Till now, more than 4,000 units of the flagship electric SUV have been sold by the company, with reports of a facelifted version arriving soon. Additionally, the company continues to grow the scope by increasing charging infrastructure and including more elements into the ecosystem, like battery after-life applications and recycling.

Last month, the SAIC-owned MG Motor announced its partnership with Attero, as it recycled its first EV battery. Through this, the company could use the metal extracts and various other commodities from the recycling process to develop new batteries.

As compared to the year 2020, MG Motor India has exhibited growth of 21.5 per cent for the Hector, 145 per cent for ZS EV, and 252 per cent for Gloster in the year 2021 and closed the year with a significant backlog with efforts to meet the growing demand.
