Actor Tom Cruise's BMW X7 Stolen In The UK While Filming The Next Mission: Impossible Movie

Actor Tom Cruise has been filming the seventh instalment of the Mission: Impossible franchise in the UK for a few days now. And while he's been in the news for his stunts and public appearances, this incident has been a bit of a downer. The actor's BMW X7 that was being used to ferry him in and around the UK was reported stolen earlier this week from outside the Grand Hotel at Church Street in Birmingham. The luxury SUV also had goods worth thousands of pounds inside.

The West Midlands Police confirmed the development and even recovered the vehicle a short while later as the car was equipped with an electronic tracking device. But the goods inside including some of Cruise's personal luggage were reported missing. The source suggests that the car theft was nothing short of a complicated heist, which the thieves managed to pull off using high-tech gear.

The BMW X7 was part of the cavalcade used to ferry around Cruise and the M:I team in Birmingham

A police spokeswoman said, "We received a report of a BMW X7 stolen from Church Street, Birmingham in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The car was recovered a short time later in Smethwick. CCTV enquiries have been made in the area that the car was recovered from. Inquiries are ongoing."
 
The report states that the thieves used a scanner to clone the signal from the BMW X7's keyless ignition fob and were able to steal the SUV within minutes after intercepting the fob signal. A similar process is likely to have been repeated to start the car, tricking the car's computer into believing that the key fob is within range.

The BMW X7 is believed to be a part of the Cruise's cavalcade as he travelled in and around Birmingham to shoot the movie. A BMW 7 Series was also part of the same cavalcade. The Mission: Impossible franchise and BMW have had a long-standing partnership and the brand's cars and motorcycles have regularly featured in the movies. Cruise was seen filming crucial action scenes with the BMW M5 in Rome in October last year, while also hopping on to the made in India BMW G 310 GS for some sequences.

The seventh Mission: Impossible has been in the news for a number of reasons now. The film suffered several production delays in the wake of the pandemic, while the actor most recently landed a helicopter in a private home in the UK further drawing attention. Cruise and co-star Hayley Atwell were also seen at a Birmingham shopping centre to shoot crucial scenes for the film. Mission: Impossible 7 is scheduled for release on May 27, 2022.
