NDTV carandbike.com has learnt from highly placed sources in Ducati India that the 2018 Ducati Monster 821 will be launched in India by the end of May or early June.

The next new motorcycle from Ducati India will be the new 2018 Ducati Monster 821 which was revealed late last year. NDTV carandbike.com has learnt from highly placed sources in Ducati India that the 2018 Ducati Monster 821 will be launched in India by the end of May or early June. The 2018 Monster 821 will get a host of updates over the previous model. The most significant change will be that the 2018 Monster 821 meets Bharat Stage IV (BS IV) emission regulations, but there are other changes as well.

The 2018 Monster 821 will have a more muscular design, borrowing its headlamp from the Monster 1200, and the introduction of a full-colour TFT instrument panel. The tail section is slimmer than the outgoing model and overall the bike looks fresher and more muscular in line with the new Monster range design. The 821 will get a new electronics package which includes Ducati Safety Pack, featuring three-level Bosch ABS, eight-level traction and three riding modes - Urban, Touring and Sport. The bodywork has been changed somewhat and the 2018 Monster 821 will also be introduced in a brand new shade. There’s a new double barrel exhaust and a quick shifter with slipper clutch.

The engine of the 2018 Ducati Monster 821 remains the same, but power has gone down by 2 bhp. The 821 cc Testastretta v-twin now makes 108 bhp at 9250 rpm and 86Nm of peak torque at 7750 rpm, while paired to a 6-speed gearbox. Suspension duties are handled by 43 mm upside down forks and an adjustable monoshock unit at the rear. Braking is handled by Brembo M4-32 callipers gripping 320 mm dual discs at the front.

The 2018 Ducati Monster 821 is expected to be priced at around Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom). At that price, the Monster 821 will compete head on with the Triumph Street Triple RS and even the top-end variant of the Kawasaki Z900.
