Frankfurt 2017: Honda CR-V Hybrid Prototype Breaks Cover

- The Honda CR-V Hybrid gets a bunch of design and feature updates
- It gets a 2.0-litre petrol engine and an electric motor
- It will hit the roads in early 2018
With electrification being one of the most important themes at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, most auto manufacturers made announcements about the electrification of their fleet and further programs for new EV models. Honda too took the wraps off its Urban EV concept, which clearly states Honda's future direction. On similar lines, the company also took the wraps off the prototype of the Honda CR-V Hybrid. This is the first time that the new CR-V is being showcased on European soil. The CR-V Hybrid is wider, taller and longer than its predecessor and gets quite a few tweaks and updates as far as looks are concerned.

The new CR-V in its hybrid avatar looks sharper and bolder thanks to the flared wheel arches and a newly sculpted bonnet and rear. As far as the powertrain is concerned, the CR-V Hybrid has a two-motor i-MMD (Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive). The SUV has a 2.0-litre four cylinder Atkinson Cycle petrol engine along with a separate electric motor. The engine is mated to a CVT unit. The i-MMD tech does not need the driver to switch between different driving modes as it does the job itself. Honda says that the CR-V Hybrid has enough power in it to tackle regular city driving between hybrid drive mode and EV drive mode. Should you need more power, you can engage the engine drive mode.
(2018 Honda CR-V Hybrid)The new CR-V will also have a 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo engine. But Honda has confirmed that it will not be launching a diesel variant of the new CR-V in Europe. The company will reveal more details as and when the launch of the new CR-V Hybrid happens in 2018.
