Kia EV6 India Launch: What To Expect

- Pre-bookings for Kia EV6 will begin on May 26, 2022
- Only 100 units of EV6 allotted for India in the first year
- Expect prices to begin at Rs. 50 lakh (ex-showroom)
The Kia EV6 is the company's first fully electric vehicle, built for global markets. We told you exclusively that the EV6 will be making its way to India as a completely built unit (CBU). And this particular model is likely to be priced between Rs. 50 lakh to Rs. 60 lakh (ex-showroom). Only 100 units have been allotted for India in the first year of its launch, in a bid to gauge the market response to an electric vehicle, which is likely to be the most expensive model from Kia in India.

Kia says that the EV6 has the sportiness of a fastback, the stance of a compact hatch, and, perhaps, a little of the raw strength of a rally car too.
The Kia EV6 is built on Hyundai Motor Company's global e-GMP platform, that also underpins the Hyundai IONIQ5. Globally, Kia's aim is for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) have a 40 per cent share in total sales by 2030, with target sales of 1.6 million units. Kia says it will strengthen its EV line-up of BEVs with 11 new global models by 2026. So far, the company hasn't shared an EV plan particular to India, like Hyundai did by announcing the launch of six BEVs by 2028.

Kia EV6
As is the case with most manufacturers, India is likely to get the top-spec variant of the Kia EV6, which is the GT-Line model with dual electric AWD and a 77.4 kWh battery pack, that gives a range in excess of 400 kilometres. The power output is about 320 bhp along with peak torque output of 605 Nm. Kai also offers a smaller, 58 kWh battery pack, offered in two configurations - a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) setup with 168 bhp, or in an all-wheel-drive layout with a dual-motor set-up that makes 235 bhp. However, we believe Kia to launch it in India at a later stage, maybe once the EV establishes itself in the market.

The EV6 could be Kia's new flagship in India when it arrives but that's still some time away
In terms of size, the GT-Line measures at 4695 mm long, 1890 mm wide and 1550 mm tall. The wheelbase meanwhile is a notable 2900 mm - just 50 mm shorter than what you would get in the three-row MG Gloster. These dimensions mean that the EV6 should offer a spacious cabin to say the least given that it's only a five-seater. Kia also claims good space for luggage with a 520-litre boot expandable to 1300 litres with the rear seat folded and 20 litres (52 litres in the rear-wheel-drive models) of additional space in the frunk.

The company is yet to give us a hint of a tentative launch timeline. We believe that the prices of the EV6 will be announced in the next couple of months, right before the festive season.
