Mahindra & Mahindra that had released the official sketch images of its upcoming sub-compact SUV - the TUV300 - in August, has now announced that it will be launched on September 10, 2015 from its plant in Chakan, Maharashtra. Based on a new ladder frame chassis, the Mahindra TUV300's design is inspired by a battle tank. The vehicle has been designed and developed in-house, and its its research & development work has bene done at the Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai.

Speaking on the announcement, Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive (Automotive), M&M Ltd. mentioned," The TUV300 is one of the most eagerly anticipated launches of this year. Signifying a true 'Make-in-India' product, the design of the TUV300 is inspired by a battle tank. We are confident that this product launch will create excitement in the market as well as amongst our customers".

Though it's early to comment on its styling, raised shoulders, square wheel arches, flat roof, straight bonnet, rear-mounted spare wheel and plain side profile help it look rugged if not sporty.

Power for the Mahindra TUV300 will come from a new 'mHawk80' engine that will be based on the existing 2.2 mHawk unit. Though the company has't yet revealed the engine specs, we expect it to be as powerful as the Quanto. Transmission options on offer could be a 5-speed manual and an automated manual transmission (AMT).
