Top 10 Selling Two-Wheelers in December 2015

2015 was surely a year of ups and downs for the Indian two-wheeler market. While we saw some very interesting launches during the course of the year including the new generation Bajaj Pulsars, Honda CBR650F and CB Hornet 160R as well as the Hero Maestro Edge and Duet scooters, there were also major announcements with regard to safety and emission standards made by the government.
On the sales front, the two-wheeler market grew at a steady pace for most of 2015 but eventually witnessed the drop towards the end of the year. That being said, the Indian and Japanese manufacturers continue to dominate the market with their volume friendly offerings as the top 10 two-wheeler sales list for December 2015 suggests.

The undisputed king of the throne; Hero MotoCorp's reliable old Splendor, took the top spot once again in December 2015 with 1,84,856 units sold. While the Splendor sales rarely fail to impress, volumes for the commuter segment were down by 14 per cent when compared to the 2,15,161 units sold in December 2014. Giving Splendor tough competition is the Honda Activa which is the best selling scooter, came in a close second clocking 1,74,154 units last month. The difference between the Splendor and Activa was a mere 10,702 units. Honda too witnessed a mild drop in numbers when compared to the 1,80,879 units sold in December 2014.
Taking over the third spot was the Hero HF Deluxe with 93,451 units being sold, witnessing a 19 percent growth in year-on-year sales. The HF Deluxe managed to overtake the Passion Pro as the latter moved down to the fifth spot on the list with 55,765 units to its name. This is the second consecutive drop in the Passion's sales after the commuter bike dropped to the fourth spot in November 2015 with 86,060 units to its name. Coming in fourth was the TVS XL Super moped with 56,521 units, but saw a 5.5 percent drop in sales compared to the same period last year.

Hero's new Maestro Edge scooter is also doing extremely well having clocked 52,084 units and sales are expected to grow further this year as well with the scooter boasting of strong demand. Honda's first motorcycle on the list, the CB Shine, saw a drop in sales by 18 percent on a year-on-year basis with 51,047 units sold last month. This is another consistent drop for the Shine since November last year. Rivaling the CB Shine, the Hero Glamour closely trailed behind with 48,748 units, witnessing a growth of almost 3 percent over last year.

Compared to last year, the Pulsar range has made an exit from the top 10 list and going by the success of the new Avenger, we expect the latter to soon take over.
