The year 2021 has been a busy one for automakers in India with so many launches that happened across segments. Despite challenging conditions like chip shortages and COVID-19 second wave, the automakers have not held back from bringing new cars to our market, particularly the SUVs considering the inclinations of the Indian customers towards the same. On that note, we take a quick look at the top five SUVs that were most searched by the Indians on Google in 2021.

Kia Seltos

The Kia Seltos was first launched in India in 2019
The Kia Seltos leads the chart with over 8.2 lakh average monthly searches on Google, in 2021. It's the brand's first product that was first launched in our market in 2019. It is currently one of the best-selling compact SUVs in India. The South Korean automaker introduced the refreshed model of the Seltos in the Indian car market featuring the brand's new logo alongside new feature additions. The SUV comes with a choice of three engines - a 1.5-litre Smartstream naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.4-litre T-GDI turbocharged petrol, and a 1.5-litre CRDi VGT diesel engine.
Mahindra Thar

The Mahindra Thar went on sale in India last year.
The new-generation Mahindra Thar is the second most searched SUV with over 6.7 lakh average monthly searches on Google this year. It's been more than a year since the off-roader went on sale. Despite the semiconductor shortage and long waiting period, the popularity of the Thar continues to grow each day. Mahindra offers the SUV with two engine options - a 2.0-litre mStallion 150 TGDI petrol and a 2.2-litre mHawk 130 diesel.
Tata Nexon

The Tata Nexon is one of the safest cars on sale in India
The Tata Nexon is one of the most popular offerings from the home-grown automaker, and it has made quite a mark for itself in the subcompact SUV space. It was the third most searched SUV on Google in India this year. The SUV is among the safest cars on sale in India with a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP. The subcompact SUV is available in petrol and diesel options - a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel.
Kia Sonet

The refreshed Kia Sonet was launched in India earlier this year
The Sonet is the second Kia product on the list of top five most-searched SUVs on Google in 2021, with over 6.7 lakh average monthly searches. The updated model went on sale alongside the Seltos compact SUV earlier this year. The company offers the subcompact SUV in three powertrain choices - 1.2 naturally-aspirated Smartstream, 1.0-litre turbocharged T-GDI petrol and 1.5-litre diesel.
Tata Punch

Tata Motors launched the Punch micro SUV in India in October 2021.
The Tata Punch is the latest offering from the Indian carmaker that went on sale in India a couple of months back. With over 6.7 lakh average monthly hits, the micro SUV was the fifth most-searched SUV on Google in 2021. It was an instant hit for the carmaker, and in fact, the Punch has garnered more bookings than any other Tata car. Power comes from a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that is mated to a 5-speed manual and an optional AMT unit.
