Toyota Innova Crysta Petrol Now Available for Bookings

- The Innova Crysta was launched here in May, 2016
- The Innova Crysta petrol can be booked for a token amount of Rs. 1 lakh
- Toyota is yet to reveal technical details about the petrol version
Toyota Innova Crysta is now ready to add a petrol engine in the line-up as the Japanese automaker has now made the new variant available for bookings for a token amount of Rs. 1 lakh. The latest avatar of Toyota's popular MPV was launched here in May, 2016 but was being offered with only two all-new diesel engines till now. However, the Toyota Innova Crysta petrol version's deliveries will begin only in August. Media reports claim the Toyota Innova Crysta Petrol's price will start at nearly Rs. 14 lakh, the carmaker neither affirmed nor denied that claim.

The introduction of the petrol variant for the Innova Crysta's line-up will help Toyota deal with the effect of the ban on diesel cars with displacement of 2000cc and above in Delhi and NCR. While Mahindra's cars were also affected by the ban, the home-grown utility vehicle manufacturer found a way around it via smaller displacement diesel engine for its SUVs in the region. With that said, the restriction on diesel engines in Delhi has increasingly pushed buyers towards petrol powered cars - a fact that Toyota intends to employ to its benefit.

While technical details about the petrol engine are yet to be revealed, it is likely to be the 2.7-litre Dual VVT-i petrol unit that develops 164bhp along with 245Nm of torque. It will be offered with a choice of two transmissions: a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. Other than the new engine, the Innova Crysta will receive no other change and will continue to offer the same features across the variants as the diesel variants.
