Toyota Rumion MPV Breaks Cover

- The Toyota Rumion is a cross-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
- It looks identical to the Ertiga, save for the new grille and Toyota logo
- It also borrows creature comforts and drivetrain options from the Ertiga.
After the Maruti Suzuki dubbed Toyota Glanza and Vitara Brezza dubbed Urban Cruiser, Toyota is all set to give the Ertiga the cross-badge treatment. The new Toyota Rumion has been unveiled in South Africa and it is essentially a re-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Quite obviously, it looks near identical to the Ertiga save for cosmetic updates like the new grille and Toyota badging. Now it's not for the first time Toyota has used the Rumion name, in fact, one of Toyota's rebadged Suzuki models have used the same badge in the past as well.

The Toyota Rumion gets a new grille and Toyota logo, but looks near identical to the Ertiga.
Surprisingly, Toyota has revealed the Rumion in South Africa before our market which could be a strategic move as the Japanese carmaker is gearing up to launch the rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz- the Toyota Belta in India soon. The new Toyota Belta is expected to go on sale in India by the end of this year, being a replacement for the Toyota Yaris compact sedan in India. The second-gen Maruti Suzuki Ertiga was launched in India in 2018 and is due for a facelift next year. Toyota is likely to launch the facelifted version of the Ertiga based Rumion in India in 2022.

The cabin design of the Toyota Rumion is identical as well and it gets similar features.
Even the Toyota Rumion will be a seven-seater like the Ertiga and will be identical in terms of layout and creature comforts. So expect features like the 7.0-inch Smartplay 2.0 touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto climate control, Cruise Control, second-row air-con vents, cooled cup holders and steering mounted controls among others.

The Toyota Rumion will also be offered as a seven-seater like the Ertiga.
As far as mechanicals go, the model is again expected to be identical. Under the hood, there'll be the same 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, mild-hybrid petrol powertrain that powers a wide range of Maruti Suzuki models. The engine is tuned to belt out 103 bhp and 138 Nm of peak torque while comes with the options of a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

The Toyota Rumion also shares the 1.5-litre petrol engine with the Ertiga and gets same gearbox options.
When launched in India, other than the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Maruti Suzuki XL6, the Toyota Rumion will also rival the likes of the Renault Triber and Mahindra Marazzo. While in South African and other Asian markets it'll also go up against the recently introduced Honda BR-V.
