Two-Wheeler Sales January 2021: Honda 2Wheelers India Volumes Jump 11 Per Cent

- Honda's cumulative sales stood at 437,183 units, a hike of 8%
- Exports stood at 20,467 units, declining by 30% over 29,292 in Jan 2020
- Domestic sales for Honda 2Wheelers India stood at 416,716 units
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has reported its sales figures for January 2021 with 416,716 units sold. The company reported an 11.39 per cent jump in volumes year-on-year, as compared to 374,114 units sold during the same month last year. Honda says it managed to do well despite the low-base effect of last year in the domestic market by adding incremental volumes while maintaining normal inventory levels. Meanwhile, exports for last month stood at 20,467 units, declining by about 30 per cent when compared to 29,292 units shipped in January last year.

Speaking about the sales performance and industry at large, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Director - Sales & Marketing, HMSI said, "Honda has entered 2021 with double-digit growth and added the maximum incremental volumes to the industry. While we do foresee the low base effect to remain in play till the end of Q4 and continue into Q1 of FY'22; we are hopeful that colleges re-opening, on-going COVID vaccination drive and stronger urban demand will act as a tailwind for domestic 2Wheeler demand recovery moving ahead. Adding to this, the higher Capex allocation on infrastructure development, new health infrastructure push, increased crop procurement payment to farmers and new scrappage policy in the Budget 2021 can boost sentiments further. Overall, we are excited for 2021 as the stage is set for the launch of another new model from Honda this month."

Honda registered sales growth for the sixth consecutive month in January 2021
Cumulative sales for Honda hiked by eight per cent to 437,183 units last month, as against 403,406 two-wheelers sold in 2020 during the same period. The company also registered its sixth consecutive month of positive year-on-year sales, showing a strong recovery since the lockdown was first imposed about a year ago.

The ever-popular Honda Activa sales crossed the 2.5 crore mark last month as well. The two-wheeler maker is also expanding its BigWing dealership network and opened three new outlets in January this year. The new premium outlets retail motorcycles that are 300 cc and above in the brand's product portfolio.
