Volkswagen Ameo Launched in India; Prices Start at Rs. 5.14 Lakh

- Volkswagen has launched the Ameo only in petrol variant
- The car comes with five segment first features among other offerings
- Volkswagen offers dual airbags & ABS as standard feature in all variants
The Volkswagen Ameo is currently available only with a petrol engine spread across three variants, namely, Trendline, Comfortline, and Highline with prices in the vicinity of Rs. 5.14 lakh to Rs. 6.91 Lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai, Pre-Octroi). The petrol trims are powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPI engine that also powers the Polo in VW's lineup and is tuned to produce 73bhp and 110Nm of torque. The motor is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. For those looking at diesel power, the auto giant has confirmed that the Ameo diesel will be arriving in the market towards the end of the year close to the festive season, while a DSG autobox variant is also on the cards.

The Volkswagen Ameo is based on the same platform as the Polo (PQ25) and largely resembles the hatchback carrying the similar family front and a lot more that we noticed during our first drive review. That said, you do get upgrades like projector headlamps, revised bumper and horizontal fog lamps. The side profile remains the same as well save for the new alloy wheels, but it is the rear that sports the bulk of changes with the new bumper and tail lights grabbing maximum attention. In terms of features, the Ameo is loaded with several segment-first bits including cruise control, rain sensing vipers, anti-pinch power windows, front arm rest, and Static cornering light.

The new Volkswagen Ameo also comes loaded with a touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink tech, i-pod connectivity, phonebook/SMS viewer, automatic climate control with dust and pollen filter, electronically adjustable ORVMs with LED turn indicators, cooled glovebox, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, and rear AC vents.
With respect to safety tech, Volkswagen retains its stand on providing safety even on the base variants and is offering drive and passenger side airbags along with ABS as standard on all trims of the sub-compact sedan. The car also gets rearview camera with parking sensors as standard.

Volkswagen Ameo Features
Launching the Ameo, Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, "Today is a very special day for Volkswagen in India, as we introduce our first ever made-for-India carline, Volkswagen Ameo. The Ameo underlines our philosophy of offering the best of technology and safety standards packaged at an attractive price. Through the Ameo, we are confident of cementing Volkswagen's strong presence in the compact sedan segment and further expand the Volkswagen India family."
