You Can Buy These Pick-Up Trucks In The Used Car Market

- Pick-up trucks hold legendary status in the North American market.
- Isuzu is a big player in the pick-up truck segment.
- Toyota will launch the new Hilux in India in March 2022.
Pick-up trucks hold legendary status in the North American market, and parts of Europe as well. Not only do they feature in most of their action movies but are also an integral part of most of the suburban and rural areas, and account for a solid percentage of sales. The Ford F-Series pickup is the most popular pick-up truck in that part of the hemisphere, clocking sales of more than 7.20 lakh units in 2021 alone. But, when the focus shifts to India, we as an SUV-loving country, haven't really warmed up to this trend. Despite being such exciting and well-competent vehicles, pick-up trucks have not got a space in the Indian market. Over the years, a few have ventured into this segment, but apart from Isuzu, no other manufacturer has been able to create a niche for itself. This would most likely change with the arrival of the Toyota Hilux, slated for a March launch in India. It will be a premium offering in the country and will have only one direct rival, the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. Ahead of its arrival though, we look at some of the other options available, especially in the used car space.
Isuzu D-Max V-Cross
The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross BS6 went on sale in India in May 2021, in a single BS6 powertrain option. The most recognizable pick-up truck in India underwent a major change under the hood when it replaced the 2.5-litre engine in top-end variants with a 1.9-litre, four-cylinder BS6 compliant engine. But it is in fact the 2.5-litre mill, which is gaining traction in the used car market.

It punched enough low-end torque to get away from any harsh terrains, but the same couldn't be said about the unit's refinement. The 4x4 system is also without any doubt, quite dependable, and one of the best in the market. So naturally, it holds an elite status, not just on roads, but also in the used car market, and a few are up for grabs at a decent price. Below is a price range that would help you acquire an Isuzu D-Max V-Cross in the pre-owned car sector.
| Year/ Variant | Price range |
|---|---|
| 2020 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross Z Prestige | Rs. 17.75 lakh - Rs. 18.85 lakh |
| 2020 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross High (Z) | Rs. 16.19 lakh - Rs. 17.19 lakh |

| 2018 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross 4x4 | Rs. 9.88 lakh - Rs. 10.49 lakh |
| 2017 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross 4x4 | Rs. 8.42 lakh - Rs. 8.94 lakh |
| 2016 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross 4X4 | Rs. 7.13 lakh - Rs. 7.57 lakh |
Tata Xenon
Although Tata Motors discontinued the Tata Xenon moniker in India back in 2017, it brought in the Tata Xenon Yodha pickup truck instead for commercial use, in both single cab and double cab models. However, the models available in the used car space are either BS3 or BS4 compliant engines and are mostly limited to the CV fleet. But you can own the older generation Tata Xenon, which retailed till 2017.

Tata Xenon XT EX 4x4
The Tata Xenon XT EX 4x4 is the top model in the Xenon XT lineup and returns a certified mileage of 13.49kmpl. it comes with a 2,179cc, four-cylinder, DOHC engine that puts out 140bhp @4,000rpm and 320Nm @1,750rpm of max power and max torque respectively. It is available in manual transmission and was offered in four colors- Quartz Black, Arctic Silver, Mineral Red, and Arctic White. Both 4x2 and 4x4 systems are offered here.

Mahindra Scorpio Getaway
The Mahindra Scorpio Getaway is essentially the pickup truck variant of the Mahindra Scorpio and is only available in a 4-door double cab variant in both 2WD or 4WD configurations. But the one that we would recommend is the 4WD version, deploying a 2,498cc common rail intercooled turbo-charged diesel engine, delivering 100bhp @3,800rpm and 245Nm of torque @1,800rpm.

It also equips brake discs in front and drum brakes at the rear, with independent torsion bar front suspension with stabilizer, while the rear suspension consists of progressive leaf springs and hydraulic shocks. The cabin, especially of the double cab model, is like the Scorpio, with a touchscreen infotainment system and climate control.

| 2007 Mahindra Scorpio Getaway 4WD | Rs. 5 lakh |
Mahindra Imperio
Mahindra has had a strong presence in the pick-up truck market since the company entered the automobile market with transport vehicles and then turned towards passenger vehicles. Gaining experience from both the fields, one of their finest offerings from this fleet is the Imperio pick-up truck.

Mahindra Imperio
Available in both standard cabin and crew cabin sizes, passenger space is not an issue with the Imperio. The pick-up is powered by the tried and tested 2.5-litre, turbocharged engine producing 75bhp and 220Nm of peak torque.
| Year/ Variant | Price range |
|---|---|
| 2018 Mahindra Imperio Single Cabin VX | Rs. 6.25 lakh |
Mahindra Bolero Camper
Another reliable pick-up truck from Mahindra is the Bolero Camper. Powered by the same 2.5L m2DiCR turbocharged diesel engine found in the Imperio, the Camper generates 75bhp and 200Nm of torque. The Bolero Camper is a spacious double cabin pick-up with a payload of 1,000kg.

Mahindra Bolero Camper
The cabin is comfortably furnished with power windows, faux leather seats, and air conditioning, and the interiors are done in beige and tan colors. Equipped with a 4-wheel-drive, this pick-up is designed for off-roading.

|---|---|
| 2015 Mahindra Bolero Camper DLX | Rs. 2.07 lakh - Rs. 4.25 lakh |
| 2020 Mahindra Bolero Camper Gold VX | Rs. 7.10 lakh – Rs 8.77 lakh |
