Mahindra Teases New High-End Luxury SUV And Stinger Convertible Concept

- The new high-end luxury SUV is likely the SsangYong Rexton
- The new convertible concept SUV will be called the Stinger
- The Rexton based Mahindra SUV will be launched in India later this year
With just a couple of days to go for the Auto Expo 2018, Mahindra has released a new teaser video to give us a sneak-peek into two of its key products that are to be showcased at the motor show. The first product will be a new High-End Luxury SUV, which we believe will be the new-gen SsangYong Rexton that will be re-badged as a Mahindra SUV in India, becoming the company's flagship model. The second product teased in the video is an all-new convertible SUV concept, which will be called the Stinger. The new Mahindra Stinger convertible SUV comes with a new design language with more boxy portions and bolder character lines, which could also transfer to Mahindra future products.

The SsangYong Rexton will be re-badged in India as a Mahindra product
Now we have already got to drive the new SsangYong Rexton last year in May 2017, and apart from the new badging and few feature changes the SUV is likely to remain unchanged. The new luxury SUV (Rexton) is a more premium, better built, sophisticated product than its predecessor. The SUV comes with premium features like LED projector headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, an aggressive bumper with chrome highlights and a second set of LED DRLs, stylish alloy wheels and LED taillights. While the SUV is set to make its debut at Auto Expo, Mahindra, however, will launch the new model in India only later this year. The Rexton we drove came with a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine that developed 183 bhp and puts out 420 Nm of peak torque.
Mahindra Stinger Convertible Concept SUV will get bold styling and design
The new Mahindra Stinger convertible SUV concept, on the other hand, looks bold, stylish and rugged. The teaser only reveals so much of its styling, but we can see that it will come with the signature Mahindra grille with chrome inserts similar to the new Scorpio facelift. The concept SUV also seems to come with sharp wraparound headlamps, a muscular front bumper with C-shaped LED daytime running lamps and beefy underbody classy with a skid plate. The boxy wheel arches seem to house a bold set of alloy wheels, while the rear comes with LED taillamps, and a rear bumper the in a way mirrors the front bumper styling with similar C-shaped reflectors and a beefy rear skid plate. In fact, the rear portion also seems to have provision for a spare wheel.
Mahindra Stinger Convertible Concept SUV could get an electric powertrain
We still do not know whether the Stinger concept will be one of the electric vehicles that Mahindra plans to showcase or will it get the company's diesel powertrains. However, it will be quite an interesting offering from Mahindra.
