Bajaj has temporarily discontinued the relatively new Pulsar AS200 and AS150 (Adventure Sport) across the country. The complete line-up is being updated to BSIV norms for the 2017 model year and the company is introducing the updated models in the market one-by-one.
Bajaj dealerships pan India have stopped accepting bookings for the Pulsar AS200 and AS150 motorcycles. Dealers confirmed to carandbike.com that the last deliveries of the half-faired Pulsars were done on Dhanteras this year (28th October) and the company has since then stopped the production of the bike. Certain outlets with remaining inventory of either models are still offering the same with discounts.
Discontinuing the Bajaj Pulsar Adventure Sport twins is an unprecedented move and makes for the third Pulsar to stop production in a year. While Bajaj Auto is yet to officially confirm the same, sources close to the company have disclosed that the discontinuation of the Pulsar Adventure Sport twins is temporary and part of the update process for the new year, which will be extended to all models before the norms are implemented from April 2017.
With Bajaj facilities running at full capacity, the bike maker has decided to concentrate on the more popular Pulsars first and will be updating with BSIV engines and mechanical upgrades for 2017. The Pulsar AS150 and AS200 are expected to return as 2017 models with BSIV compliant engines and possibly new colour schemes. Do not expect to see any major changes.
Launched in 2015, the Bajaj Pulsar AS200 and Pulsar AS150 have been underwhelming as far as sales are concerned. The company's projections did not meet the real world sales figures and this seems to be the reason behind the pulling the motorcycles off the shelf even if temporarily.
The Bajaj Pulsar AS200 was launched with the discontinuation of the Pulsar 200NS (Naked Sport), which too was deemed as a temporary move at the time. However, there has been little detail so far on the model making it back to the market anytime soon.
Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto will be introducing the 2017 Pulsar 150 and 180 in the following days. Reports suggest that the models will get new colour schemes, updated instrument cluster and BS IV compliant engines with enhanced refinement and smoother power delivery. The Pulsar 180 is also expected to get a mild upgrade in power, while there will be now a rear disc brake on offer.
In addition, Bajaj will be introducing its awaited flagship - the Kratos (formerly Pulsar CS400) later this year. Sources suggest that the sports cruiser is ready for launch and will mark Bajaj Auto's grand entry to the premium motorcycle segment. The new brand will also have a different identity of the Pulsar range, which was felt to be a bit stretched ranging from 135cc to 220cc.
