Honda Motorcycle And Scooter India Recalls Multiple Models In India

- Honda recalls multiple models in India over a reflector issue
- Models recalled include all variants of Activa, CB Shine, Hornet, X-Blade
- H'Ness CB 350 and CB 300R recalled as well
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has issued a recall for multiple models in India owing to a potential issue with the reflex reflectors. The model which are affected by the recall are the Honda Activa 5G, Honda Activa 6G, Honda Activa 125, CB Shine, Hornet 2.0, X-Blade, H'Ness CB 350 and the CB 300R. The total number of units recalled is not known yet. The safety reflector on the affected models is placed at the fork and has slight variations from the required photometric provision. This results in insufficient light reflection which may lead to lesser visibility especially in the dark. However, Honda maintains that impact on vehicle visibility is insignificant. The affected Honda models were manufactured between November 2019 and January 2021.

All affected units will be attended by authorised HMSI dealerships and a new reflex reflector shall be replaced as a precautionary measure free of charge, irrespective of warranty status of the identified vehicle. The company began the recall process on June 1, 2021, subject to unlock provisions as per guidelines issued by local administration. HMSI said that it will reach out to customers via call, emails or SMS for inspection of the vehicle and replacement if need be. Similarly, customers can also enter the VIN on the company website. All suspected spare parts stock at HMSI dealerships/ parts distributors are also being recalled. Honda CB300R and H'ness CB350 customers will be required to visit a Honda BigWing dealership for replacing the affected reflector(s).

Honda Motor Co. issued a recall for a similar problem in USA as well. The recall was issued for 28,528 motorcycles in USA over a faulty rear reflector fitment. The recall notice by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that, a dim rear reflector may reduce the visibility of the motorcycle to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash or injury. The potentially affected motorcycles were manufactured in 2020-21 and the units that were recalled belonged to 13 model ranges.
