Mahindra's SUV Production Drops Nearly 26 Per Cent In August 2021

- Mahindra produced 16,417 SUVs in August 2021, Sees 25.4% MoM decline

Mahindra & Mahindra has announced production figures for August 2021. Last month, the home-grown utility vehicle manufacturer produced 16,417 passenger vehicles, witnessing a Year-on-Year (YoY) growth of over 18 per cent compared to 13,895 units manufactured in August 2020. However, compared to 22,016 vehicles produced in July 2021, the home-grown utility vehicle manufacturer has registered a 25.4 per cent Month-on-Month (MoM) decline in SUV production. The carmaker had recently confirmed that it is facing a supply shortage of semiconductors, and expects around 20-25 per cent production cut in September.

Last month, the company produced 1,311 units of electric 3-wheelers in India
As for three-wheelers and light commercial vehicles, the company manufactured 931 units last month registered a triple-digit growth against 237 units produced in the same month last year. Compared to 1516 units manufactured in July 2021, the company witnessed a month-on-month (M-o-M) decline of over 38 per cent. Last month, Mahindra produced 1311 units of electric three-wheelers in India against 136 units in August 2020. Compared to 843 units manufactured in July 2021, the company recorded an MoM growth of 55.5 per cent.
Production of Commercial Vehicles declined to 13,404 units in August 2021, compared to 15,603 units in the same month last year. In July 2021, the company produced 18,393 units registering an MoM decline of over 27 per cent.

The company's overall auto sales in August 2021 stood at 30,585 units
As for sales, the company's overall auto sales stood at 30,585 units, a good 17 per cent Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y) growth compared to 30,399 vehicles sold in August 2020. Mahindra's Utility Vehicle (UV) segment accounted for 15,786 units in August 2021, registering an 18 per cent growth compared to the 13,407 vehicles sold in the same month last year. The company also exported 3,180 units from India last month, seeing a triple-digit growth of 172 per cent compared to 1,169 units exported in the corresponding month last year.
