Maruti Suzuki To Enhance Production Of Oxygen Generators For COVID Patients

- Maruti Suzuki has collaborated with 3 firms to produce oxygen generators
- Maruti says about 70 oxygen generator plants have been produced in May
- Maruti Suzuki says it has increased the oxygen output levels by 10 times
Maruti Suzuki India has announced it will enhance the production of oxygen generators using small-scale units in a bid to meet the demand for Covid-19 patients. The shortage of oxygen saw several deaths during the second wave of the pandemic, prompting industries to stop manufacturing and divert oxygen supplies for medical use. Auto manufacturers have also been working towards providing oxygen to hospitals. Maruti Suzuki says it has already increased the oxygen output levels by over 10 times.

Furthermore, Maruti Suzuki says it has offered to install oxygen PSA (Pressure Swing Absorption) generators in medium and large-sized hospitals. These generators not only help with the oxygen shortage but also build efficiency reducing the logistical time consumption and the loss of oxygen during the transportation process.
To increase the production of oxygen, Maruti has collaborated with Airox Nigen Equipments, SAM Gas Products and Gaskon Engineers. The automaker says that about 70 oxygen generator plants have been produced in May, which will increase to 150 in June with the new partners. The backlog order with these suppliers is 225. The oxygen production capacity of one tonne a day or 500 litres a minute costs about Rs. 60-70 lakh. Maruti Suzuki says the company will donate 20 such plants in Haryana-Delhi-NCR, while the rest will be commercially decided by its partners and the buyers.
