Planning To Buy A Used Tata Tigor? Here Are Some Pros And Cons

The Tata Tigor subcompact sedan was launched in India in 2017 as the replacement for the Zest. It is based on the company’s X1 platform, which also underpins the Tiago, and is also one of the entry-level models in the home-grown automaker’s line-up. While a brand-new Tata Tigor itself won’t be too heavy on your pocket, if you are looking for an entry-level sedan on a tight budget, we would suggest going for a pre-owned one. The car has already spent five years in the Indian car market, so you are likely to find a considerable number of options in the used car space. But before you start looking for one, here are some pros and cons you must consider first.
The Tigor is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that comes with a manual and AMT gearbox.
Pros
- The Tata Tigor is a very capable and safe car. It has received a 4-star safety rating from the Global NCAP and is very sturdy when it comes to build quality. In fact, it's the safest car in its segment.
- The Tigor is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that put out 84 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque and comes with a manual and AMT gearbox. The older model also came with a diesel engine.
- The Tiago, though small, is very spacious and has good head and shoulder room as well as knee room for rear occupants.
- Depending on the variant you get, the car also gets a touchscreen infotainment system from Harmon with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear parking camera, a multi-function steering wheel and more.
While the cabin is spacious, the quality of plastics used inside the cabin is not the best. The seats could also have been slightly better in terms of comfort.
Cons
- Most of the nicer features we mentioned above are exclusive to the facelift, top-spec variants, of the Tigor, which was launched in 2020. Even the touchscreen was added later. So, if those are important to you, your options will be limited.
- While the cabin is spacious, the quality of plastics used inside the cabin is not the best. The seats could also have been slightly better in terms of comfort.
- The rear seat does not get a centre armrest, rear AC vents, adjustable headrest, or even a back seat pocket to stow away some documents. The rear middle passenger also only gets a lap belt.
