After much anticipation, Tata Motors has revealed the prices of select variants of the Harrier EV. The largest all-electric vehicle from the manufacturer to date, the vehicle represents many firsts for Tata including being the only model in Tata’s portfolio to feature a dual-motor setup. With the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variants priced from Rs 21.49 lakh to Rs 27.49 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom, excluding charger), the company has also revealed that prices for the dual-motor variants will be revealed on June 27. That got us thinking, how do the prices of the RWD variants of the Harrier EV compare against the prices of the Mahindra XEV 9e, which is solely offered in RWD guise? We find out.

| Empowered 75 | Rs 27.49 lakh | Pack 3 79 kWh | Rs 30.50 lakh |
While the Harrier EV is offered in five variants, the Mahindra is only offered in four, with the Tata undercutting the Mahindra at every level. The base variant of the Harrier EV is Rs 41,000 more affordable than the XEV 9e’s. Even the succeeding variants of the Tata continue to be priced lower than the equivalent variants of the Mahindra, with the prices of the top-spec variant varying by nearly Rs 3 lakh.
The higher price tag is justified by a triple-screen setup on the inside, a larger 79 kWh battery pack on the Mahindra offering a higher claimed range figure, and a more powerful motor than the RWD Harrier. However, it should also be noted that Tata is yet to announce prices for the dual-motor Harrier, which could very well undercut the top-spec XEV 9e. Furthermore the top-spec Harrier EV comes with Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capabilities and a a transparent view mode through its 360-degree cameras, all of which are not offered in the Mahindra.

On the powertrain front, the Harrier EV RWD is offered with a 235 bhp electric motor on the rear axle, offering a range of up to 627 km (ARAI certified) for the 75 kWh variants. Tata claims a real-world range of around 480-505 km. On the other hand, the Mahindra XEV 9e uses a single rear-mounted motor putting out 281.61 bhp and 380 Nm. The XEV 9e comes with a slightly larger 79 kWh battery pack which results in a higher claimed range for the XEV 9e (up to 656 km).
