The Tata Tiago and Tigor CNG have been spotted testing several times in India and now the carmaker has officially started accepting pre-bookings for the model. According to our dealer sources in metro cities, the carmaker is charging a token amount of Rs. 5000 - Rs. 10,000 for the bookings depending on the location and variant. The company is also gearing up to launch the new Tata Tiago and Tigor CNG in India and we expect the price announcement to happen this month itself. That said, the company has not confirmed any timeline yet.

Now in terms of looks or creature comforts, both models - Tiago and Tigor will remain identical to their petrol-powered counterparts. But both models will help the carmaker to tap on a new potential market. Given the steep hike in fuel prices last year, people are looking for alternatives to petrol and diesel powered vehicles and CNG have been quite in demand of late, especially in metro cities. Even the government has been giving a greater impetus on CNG fuel. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), in India there are 3,500 CNG filling stations across 293 cities as of now as compared to 1,300 stations in 143 cities in 2019. Now this is likely to further expand to 6,000 stations by 2025 and reach 10,000 stations by 2030.

The Tata Tiago CNG has been spotted testing quite often in 2021.

As far as the mechanicals go, we do not expect to see any changes. The models come powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine tuned to belt out 85 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque. That said, we can expect a slight drop in power figures given the CNG conversion. Transmission duties are likely to be carried out by a five-speed manual gearbox as standard.
