Tata Tiago Crosses 4 Lakh Unit Production Milestone

The Tata Tiago has crossed the 4-lakh unit production mark in India with the milestone unit rolling off the production line at the company's Sanand facility. The Tiago was launched in the country in 2016 featuring the company's then-new Impact design philosophy and with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. In 2018, the hatchback was joined by the Tiago NRG, a crossover inspired derivative. The hatchback back received a mid-cycle facelift in 2020 along with being upgraded to meet BS6 norms while the diesel engine option was discontinued. The updated NRG arrived in 2021 while the Tiago CNG arrived earlier this year.
Commenting on the milestone, Rajan Amba, Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Customer Care, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. said, “This is indeed a historic milestone for Tata Motors as Tiago is the first car to complete this milestone in a short span. Tiago has been a key product in our Turnaround 2.0 strategy and since its launch has been successful in grabbing a sizeable market share in the most crowded segment in the auto industry. The Tiago has become the preferred choice for youngsters who are looking for a stylish, feature-loaded, and safe car, with more than 60% of sales generated from first-time buyers.”

The most recent addition to the Tiago range is the new CNG version.
Tata says that the Tiago has carved out a 19 percent market share in its segment with a large portion of its sales coming from first-time car buyers. The facelifted hatchback also scored well in terms of safety with a four-star rating in Global NCAP testing back in 2020.
Tata's hatchback is available with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with either a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox. The unit develops 85bhp and 113Nm in the petrol car with the CNG model developing 72.4bhp and 95Nm when burning CNG.
