Upcoming Mahindra MPV U321 Spotted Up Close; Launch Later This Year

- The Mahindra U321 is likely to make its debut sometime this year
- The U321 gets large horizontal projector headlamps and stylish alloys
- The Mahindra U321 MPV will rival the likes of Toyota Innova Crysta
There has been yet another sighting of Mahindra's upcoming flagship MPV, codenamed U321, in Chennai. Though fully camouflaged, this time around the prototype model was seen up and close, giving us a clearer look at the new production parts, which we have already seen in few earlier spy shots. Judging by the look of it, it seems like Mahindra is currently in the final stages of testing before it's finally ready to launch the car later this year. We expect Mahindra might consider launching the U321 MPV in Indian around the festive season.

The new test mule gives us a glimpse of the upcoming MPV production parts like the new grille of chrome inserts, the large wraparound headlamps with projector lights and front bumper and a pair of foglamps with integrated LED daytime running lamps. Even the alloys on the U321 look like the production version and we have seen them in a couple of previously seen test mules as well. And so are the large ORVMs. Among other features, the MPV will come with a large tailgate that is likely to open upwards, a pair of vertically shared LED taillamps, roof-mounted LED brake lights and a large rear bumper.
We have already had a sneak-peek of the cabin of the upcoming MPV, and we have to say, Mahindra has done a pretty nice job. The U321 comes with a well-designed two-tone dashboard with large piano black centre panels, while the lower section is coloured in white shade. There a large touchscreen infotainment display at the centre with buttons and dials on either side of it for controlling the system and the central air-con vents above it. The MPV will come with an automatic climate control, a new three-spoke steering wheel, a twin-pot instrument cluster, and large air-con vents on either end. The cabin, in general, comes with a light beige shade with fabric upholstery and armrest for both seats and the MPV also appears to get one-touch-down power windows for both driver and passenger side.
Under the hood, the U321 will reportedly feature an all-new 1.6-litre diesel engine along with a petrol unit. The engines are likely to come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional 6-speed automatic transmission. Upon launch, the Mahindra U321 MPV will go up against the likes of the Toyota Innova Crysta and Tata Hexa.
