Auto Expo 2018: New Maruti Suzuki Swift, Price Expectation In India

- The new-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift will be launched at the Auto Expo
- The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift now also has the AGS (automatic) on offer
- The all-new Swift will continue using the 1.2 petrol & 1.3 diesel engines
The new-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift is all set to be launched in India during the Auto Expo 2018 . Slated for a February 8 launch, bookings for the car have already commenced across all Maruti Showrooms in India. In fact, even before the car is actually launched, dealers are expecting a waiting period of 6-8 weeks. And we are not surprised considering all the upgrades and features the new Swift brings to the table. While they might not be a segment first, many of them sure are best-in-class. Having said that it also begs us to ask the question - how will Maruti Suzuki India price the new Swift? Well, we expect the car to be launched at a starting price of 5.3 lakh going up to Rs. 8.5 lakh (all ex-showroom, Delhi). Read: Auto Expo 2018 Day 2 Live Updates

One of the main reasons for the premium price tag will be the new Heartect platform, which has made the new Swift more rigid and lighter by about 90 kg. The car also gets an all-new design that looks more modern and contemporary along with a host of smart features that have been added to the Swift for the first time like - LED projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, diamond cut alloy wheels and LED taillamps. Of course, most of these features will be exclusive to the top-end ZXI+ and ZDI+ models.

The updated cabin will also play a key role in the premium pricing. Due to the new platform, the Swift is now wider and gets a longer wheelbase, despite being marginally shorter, both in terms of length and height. This translates to a roomier cabin and to match the premium feel of the exterior the interior has also been updated and now you get new upholstery, and an all-new dashboard that features a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, and a flat-bottom steering with mounted controls and much more. The new Swift also offers dual airbags, ABS and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard across the variant trims.

The car is mainly offered in four variants for both petrol and diesel models - LXI/LDI, VXI/VDI, ZXI/ZDI, and ZXI+/ZDI+. The petrol unit is the same 1.2-litre K-Series engine that makes 82 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque, while the diesel option is the tried and tested 1.3-litre DDIS engine that makes 74 bhp and 190 Nm of peak torque. While a 5-speed manual gearbox is still standard across the variant list, Maruti now also offers its auto gear shift (AGS), its AMT unit as an option, which again adds to the sticker price of the car.
