Hyundai Creta SUV Continues To Rake In Numbers

- Creta is Hyundai's third best-selling car in India
- 94,474 units of the Creta have been sold in India since its launch here
- Reports claim the diesel variants constitute 80% of the SUV's sales
Hyundai Creta, the automaker's third best-selling car in India, has been around for over an year now. Launched here in July 2015 and exported to over 77 countries, the compact SUV undoubtedly is in demand both, in the domestic market and globally. It had received over 1 lakh bookings within 8 months of its arrival here. Furthermore, Hyundai has sold 94,474 units of the Creta in India and exported a total of 33,524 units since its launch.
Though the Creta continues to bring in the numbers, the demand has lead to a sizable waiting period. Last we heard, certain variants of the SUV have a waiting period of nearly 6 months. Interestingly, the carmaker has observed a greater demand for diesel variants despite the recent fuss over diesel engines. In fact, media reports claim Hyundai Creta diesel constitutes 80 per cent of the SUV's sales.

While Hyundai has the numbers that allude to the SUV's success in the country, it leads one to ponder how the company is attending to the demand. With India serving as the production hub for the compact SUV, Hyundai produces more than 13,000 units of the Creta every month. A major chunk of this number is used to service the orders in India, while the rest is exported to markets in Asia, Middle East, Africa, Latin America, etc..
The Hyundai Creta is offered with a choice of 3 engines, namely, 1.6 Gamma Dual VTVT, 1.6 U2 CRDi VGT, and 1.4 U2 CRDi. Initially offered with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic albeit only with the 1.6-litre diesel, a petrol automatic variant was launched earlier this year.
