Mahindra S201 Spied Revealing Production-Spec Taillamps

- The Tivoli-based Mahindra S201 will be a sub-4 metre SUV
- The Mahindra S201 is based on the SsangYong Tivoli's X100 platform
- The S201 is expected to be launched in India later this year
The Mahindra S201 has been spotted yet again and this time around we have come across some clearer pictures of the car's production-spec taillamps. The car was spotted in Chennai where Mahindra has been developing and testing the S201 for a while now. The images reveal that the all-new production-spec subcompact SUV from Mahindra will come with a set of brand new horizontally-placed LED taillamps, which are very different from the ones we have seen in some of the earlier spy images that were based on the Tivoli's taillamps.

The new S201 sub-4 metre SUV is based on the SsangYong Tivoli and the India-spec SUV will be a sub-4 metre model, rivaling the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, and Tata Nexon. As of now, Mahindra has been pretty tight-lipped about the development and launch of the S201, but judging by the near-production model that we see in these images, we expect the production model to be launched in India later this year.

Based on some of the earlier spy shots, we know that the S201 now comes with production-spec ORVMs, black alloy wheels and roof-mounted spoiler with integrated LED brake lights. The front section is likely to come with horizontally-placed projector headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, wide chrome grille, and a muscular front bumper among others. The cabin design is still unknown, but we expect the SUV to come with premium quality interior and smart features.
In terms of powertrain options, the production version of the Mahindra S201 is likely to come with the 1.2-litre G80 turbo petrol motor and 1.5-litre diesel engines. However, Mahindra could introduce the 1.6-litre diesel engine that the company is working on, along with the new 1.5-litre petrol mill which is also under development. Transmission option will include a 5-speed manual and possibly an AMT unit as well.
