Maruti Suzuki India has announced production figures for October 2021. The country's leading carmaker said its total production for last month stood at 134,779 units, which is over a 26 per cent decline against 182,490 units produced in the same month in 2020. In a regulatory filing at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Indo-Japanese carmaker said, "Production of vehicles in October 2021 continued to remain affected due to the shortage of electronic components. Compared to 81,278 units produced in September 2021, Maruti Suzuki has registered a month-on-month (M-o-M) growth of over 65 per cent. Production of mini hatchbacks like Alto and S-Presso in October 2021 saw a drop of 25.6 per cent at 23,632 units compared to 31,779 units manufactured in the same month last year. The compact segment with models like the WagonR, Swift, Dzire, Baleno, Ignis and others recorded a decline of 63.41 per cent at 62,824 units produced in October 2021 against 102,666 units produced in the corresponding month last year.
Production of the Ciaz mid-size sedan went up by 4.2 per cent at 1554 units compared to 1490 units manufactured a year ago. Production of utility vehicles also went up by 16.8 per cent at 32,313 units compared to 27,665 units manufactured in October last year. In the same month, production of Eeco went down by 27.7 per cent at 10,440 units against 13,342 units manufactured in October 2020. As for Light Commercial Vehicles, production of the Super Carry declined to 4016 units as compared to 5548 units assembled a year ago, registering a drop of 27.61 per cent.

Production of utility vehicles went up by 16.8 per cent at 32,313 units.
Maruti Suzuki recorded a year-on-year sales decline of 24.18 per cent selling 1,38,335 units last month compared to 1,82,448 units it sold in the same month a year ago. And the double-digit drop in volumes is primarily attributed to the curtailment in production numbers due to chip shortage. In fact, the company last month reported that it is facing a backlog of over 2 lakh pending customer orders in the country. The carmaker said this is mainly due to challenges caused by the global shortage in the supply of electronic components, which has taken a big hit on vehicle production.
