Petrol, Diesel Prices Hiked Again Across India

- Petrol and diesel prices have touched new all-time highs across India
- Petrol rates in Mumbai is the highest among all metros at Rs. 99.71/litre
- Fuel rates have been hiked for the 13th time this month
The state-owned fuel retailers on Tuesday once again hiked domestic fuel prices across the country. As per a notification from Indian Oil Corporation, petrol became costlier by up to 23 paise a litre, while diesel soared by up to 25 paise a litre. In Mumbai, petrol prices inched towards the Rs. 100 per litre mark, which jumped from Rs. 99.49 a litre to Rs. 99.71 a litre, while diesel increased to Rs. 91.57 per litre. With thirteen hikes this month, petrol prices have been increased by Rs. 3.04 per litre, while diesel became costlier by Rs. 3.59 a litre.

In Mumbai, petrol is slowing inching towards the Rs. 100 per litre mark
Here are the petrol and diesel prices across five major metros on May 25, 2021:

Fuel rates are currently at record highs across the country. In the national capital, petrol touched Rs. 93.44 a litre from Rs. 93.21 and diesel now cost Rs. 84.32 a litre. Other metro cities also witnessed a similar hike in fuel rates. In Chennai, the two auto fuels are priced at Rs. 95.06 per litre and 89.11 per litre for petrol and diesel, respectively. The customers in Kolkata will now have to pay Rs. 93.49 per litre for petrol and Rs. 87.16 for one-litre diesel. On the other hand, in Bengaluru, petrol and diesel are now priced at Rs. 96.55 per litre and Rs. 89.39 per litre, respectively.
Petrol and diesel rates have already crossed Rs. 100-mark and Rs. 90-mark in several non-metro regions in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. In Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district, petrol and diesel have touched Rs. 104.42 per litre and Rs.97.18 a litre, respectively. In Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh, petrol has breached Rs. 104 per litre mark and diesel retail at Rs. 95.15 a litre. Other regions where petrol prices are above Rs. 100 per litre include Jaisalmer, Banswara, Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Rewa, Ratnagiri, Aurangabad, and Parbhani.

The oil marketing companies like Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum are revising domestic fuel prices on a daily basis. Changes in fuel prices are implemented at 6 am every day. Fuel rates differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as value-added tax (VAT).
