Renault Kwid 1.0-Litre Version Shipped Overseas for R&D

Earlier, we had reported that Renault Kwid is set to receive a more powerful 1.0-litre petrol engine soon. Renault India had announced that the updated Kwid will be launched in India later in 2016 planning to launch a more powerful version of its popular small car Kwid with a new 1.0-litre engine. Renault India is expected to unveil this new Kwid at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi next month. Now some new information has surfaced according to which the French carmaker has recently shipped few units of the Renault Kwid with a 1.0-litre engine to some overseas markets for testing and R&D.

The recent information we have received tells us that since last month Renault India has shipped various units of the Kwid small car to countries like France, Germany and South Korea and three of them are the 1.0-litre version. Along with India Renault also plans to launch the new Kwid 1.0-litre in few global markets and that is apparently why the carmaker has shipped the new Kwid to those markets for R&D, before its official unveiling at this year's Auto Expo.

Currently the Renault Kwid sold in India sports an 800cc petrol engine the produces a maximum of 54bhp and a peak torque of 72Nm. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the upcoming 1.0-litre unit is likely to get an AMT unit as option.

The Renault Kwid has been one of most popular launches in 2015 and offers loads of best-in-class features that make and a true value for money entry level hatchback. The car feature list includes offerings like best-in-class 180mm ground clearance, 300-litre boot space, 4.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an array of customisation options among others.

The car was also subject to a number of accolades from the industry for its exceptional design and attractive styling. The Renault Kwid competes in India against the likes of segment leader's Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon, with an aggressive price tag of Rs. 2.60 lakh to Rs. 3.64 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
