Tata Nexon EV And Altroz EV To Be Launched With The Ziptron Powertrain Technology

- The Company will launch its first EV based on the Ziptron EV tech in 2020
- The Ziptron tech uses lithium-ion cells.
- It offers a minimum range of 250 kms on a single charge.
Tata Motors is all-set to take its EV game ahead with its latest EV powertrain technology. The Ziptron will power a range of Tata's future EVs and carandbike can confirm that the first two models will be the electric iteration of the Altroz and Nexon. The Company will launch its first EV based on the Ziptron EV tech in 2020 and the next will follow in 2021. The Ziptron tech uses lithium-ion cells which provide a minimum drive range of 250 kms on a single charge.

Speaking with carandbike, Shailesh Chandra, President- Electric Mobility Business & Corporate Strategy, Tata Motors said. "The Ziptron technology is for all new electric cars Coming from Tata Motors, so you can safely assume that both the Altroz and the Nexon Electric will come with the Ziptron powertrain technology."

The battery pack used in the new tech will be liquid cooled and will be packed in a solid IP67 rated case which provides high tensile outer shell to protect critical EV components. The company also says that the Battery Management System (BMS) has been designed for extended battery life of up to eight years and promises consistent performance during its span. The powertrain uses a permanent magnet AC motor with regenerative braking which charges the battery on the drive. Moreover, it gets a dedicated cooling circuit in a bid to provide consistent performance in hot weather conditions.
