Yamaha Aerox Electric Revealed: Offers 106 Km Range, 3 Ride Modes

- Yamaha Aerox goes electric
- Gets two removable 3 kWh battery packs
- Makes over 12 bhp and 48 Nm
Yamaha has taken its first step into India’s electric two-wheeler segment with the showcase of two new battery-powered scooters: the Aerox Electric and the EC-06, the latter based on the River Indie. Both were revealed alongside the launch of the XSR 155 (Rs 1.50 lakh) and the FZ Rave (Rs 1.17 lakh).

The focus here is on the Aerox Electric, or Aerox-E. Visually, it stays close to the petrol Aerox, carrying forward the same overall design cues. However, Yamaha says that the electric version has revised ergonomics, while the underseat storage space has been reduced due to changes in the bodywork.
The Aerox-E is equipped with a 9.4 kW (12.61 bhp) motor that produces 48 Nm of torque and draws power from two removable 3 kWh battery packs. These detachable units can be charged at home, and the scooter is rated for a certified 106 km range. Riding modes include Eco, Standard and Power, with a Boost function that offers a brief increase in acceleration. A reverse mode is also offered.

On the feature front, the Aerox-E gets LED lighting all around. A colour TFT screen supports turn-by-turn navigation. Other bits of interest include a smart key and an external charging port for easier access. The scooter has a kerb weight of 139 kg. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes on both ends, aided by single-channel ABS.
For now, Yamaha has only displayed both the Aerox-E and the EC-06, and the company has not yet confirmed when it will go on sale in India.
