How TVS Became One of India's Leading Two-Wheeler Brands

TVS entered the two-wheeler business in the late 1970s and introduced the TVS 50 soon after, India's first mass-produced two-seater moped. For many families and small businesses, it became an affordable and practical way to get around. That early success laid the foundation for what would later become one of India's biggest two-wheeler manufacturers.

For nearly two decades, TVS worked with Suzuki to build motorcycles for the Indian market. After the partnership ended, the company started developing its own motorcycles and scooters. This gave TVS the freedom to create products that were designed specifically for Indian riders instead of relying on overseas models.

That approach can still be seen in the current lineup. The Raider and Sport are built for everyday commuting, the Jupiter and Ntorq are among the brand's most popular scooters, while the Apache series has become a favourite among riders looking for more performance. TVS has also expanded into electric mobility with models like the iQube and continues to add new options across different segments.

TVS hasn't focused only on selling two-wheelers. The company has spent years in motorcycle racing through TVS Racing, and it has also worked with global brands such as BMW Motorrad and Norton Motorcycles. Alongside its manufacturing and research facilities in India, these partnerships have helped TVS build a reputation for making motorcycles and scooters that balance performance, technology and everyday usability.

What Makes TVS Stand Out in Terms of Technology

TVS has added more features across its bikes and scooters over the years. While commuter models focus on keeping everyday riding simple and hassle-free, premium motorcycles like the Apache series offer advanced technology that makes riding more engaging.

    Connected Features

Many premium TVS bikes and scooters are available with SmartXonnect technology, which offers Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, ride information, call and message alerts and smartphone integration through a dedicated mobile app.

    Racing-Inspired Engineering

TVS Racing has played an important role in developing motorcycles like the Apache series. Years of experience in racing have helped the company improve handling, braking and overall riding dynamics across many of its performance models.

    Features Across Different Segments

Depending on the model, buyers can get fully digital instrument consoles, riding modes, LED lighting, slipper clutches, cruise control, adjustable suspension and ride-by-wire technology. Commuter motorcycles focus on everyday usability, while premium models offer more advanced equipment for enthusiasts.

    Growing Electric Mobility

TVS continues to expand its electric portfolio with models like the iQube and TVS X. These electric scooters offer connected technology, riding modes, regenerative braking and app-based features while providing a practical alternative for city commuting.

Safety Across TVS Bikes and Scooters

Safety has become a bigger focus across the TVS lineup, with many motorcycles and scooters now offering features that help riders feel more confident in everyday traffic as well as on longer rides.

    Braking Technology

Depending on the model, TVS offers Combined Braking System (CBS), single-channel ABS or dual-channel ABS. These systems help improve braking performance and provide better control during sudden stops or emergency situations.

    Advanced Rider Assistance

Premium motorcycles such as the Apache RTR 310 and Apache RR 310 are available with features like multiple riding modes, traction control, cruise control and cornering ABS. These technologies help improve stability and rider confidence, especially on highways and during spirited riding.

    Practical Safety Features

Many TVS bikes and scooters also come with LED lighting, hazard lamps, side-stand engine cut-off, wider tyres and well-balanced chassis setups. These features may seem simple, but they make everyday riding safer and more convenient.

    Stable Handling and Rider Confidence

TVS has earned a strong reputation for building motorcycles and scooters with predictable handling and well-tuned suspension. Whether you're riding through city traffic, tackling broken roads or heading out on a weekend ride, many TVS models are designed to feel stable and easy to control.

Reasons to Consider a TVS Bike or Scooter

TVS has built a strong reputation by offering something for almost every type of rider. From fuel-efficient commuter motorcycles and family scooters to performance-focused Apache models and electric scooters, the brand has steadily expanded its lineup while keeping practicality at its core.

    • Wide range of bikes and scooters: Whether you need an everyday commuter, a sporty motorcycle or a family scooter, TVS offers products across multiple segments.
    • Performance heritage: The Apache series and TVS Racing have helped the brand build a strong reputation among enthusiasts who enjoy engaging motorcycles.
    • Modern features: Even many affordable TVS bikes now offer features like digital displays, Bluetooth connectivity and LED lighting, while premium models include ride modes and electronic rider aids.
    • Growing electric portfolio: With models like the iQube and TVS X, the brand continues to strengthen its position in India's fast-growing electric mobility market.
    • Good value for money: TVS products are generally well-equipped for their price, making them popular among both first-time buyers and experienced riders.

    The TVS Ownership Experience

Buying a bike or scooter is only part of the experience. Factors like servicing, maintenance costs and long-term reliability also play an important role, and this is where TVS has built a solid reputation over the years.

    Easy Service and Maintenance

TVS has a wide sales and service network across India, making routine maintenance convenient for most owners. Regular servicing is generally affordable, especially for commuter motorcycles and scooters.

    Reliable for Everyday Riding

Models like the Raider, Jupiter, Sport and Ntorq are widely used as daily commuters because of their dependable performance and comfortable riding experience. Many owners also appreciate the brand's consistent build quality and low running costs.

    Spare Parts Availability

Spare parts for popular TVS bikes and scooters are widely available through authorised dealerships and independent workshops, helping keep maintenance simple and repair costs under control.

    Resale Value

Popular models such as the Apache series, Jupiter, Raider and iQube generally enjoy healthy demand in the used two-wheeler market, which helps them retain their value better than many lesser-known models.

Before You Choose a TVS Bike or Scooter

TVS offers everything from budget commuter motorcycles to premium performance bikes and electric scooters. Keeping these points in mind can help you choose the right model for your needs.

Choose the Right Bike for Your Riding Style

Not every TVS model is built for the same purpose. If your daily commute is mostly within the city, a commuter bike or scooter may be the better choice. If you enjoy spirited riding or frequent highway trips, the Apache series or Ronin may be a better fit.

    Compare Variants Carefully

Many TVS bikes and scooters are available in multiple variants with different features, braking systems and connected technology. Spending a little extra on a higher variant can sometimes offer much better value in the long run.

    Think Beyond the Purchase Price

The initial TVS bike price is only one part of ownership. It's also worth considering servicing costs, fuel efficiency, insurance and maintenance before making your decision.

Premium Models Cost More to Maintain

Performance-oriented motorcycles such as the Apache range and premium electric models generally have higher maintenance and replacement costs than commuter-focused bikes and scooters.

    Check Availability Before Booking

Popular models and newly launched variants may have longer waiting periods in some cities, so it's a good idea to confirm delivery timelines with your nearest dealership before booking.

    car&bike Buying Advice

If you're planning to buy a TVS bike or scooter, these tips can help you make a better decision.

    • Take a Proper Test Ride: Don't choose a bike based only on specifications or reviews. Ride different models to understand which one feels most comfortable and suits your riding style.
    • Compare Features Across Variants: Before booking, check what each variant offers. Features like ABS, SmartXonnect, riding modes or navigation may only be available on higher trims.
    • Think About Long-Term Ownership: A lower purchase price doesn't always mean lower running costs. Compare maintenance expenses, mileage and service intervals before making your final decision.
    • Buying an Electric TVS? Check Charging Support: If you're considering a TVS electric bike or scooter, make sure charging options, battery warranty and service support are available in your city.
    • Choose Performance Only If You'll Use It: The Apache range offers a more engaging riding experience than TVS commuter motorcycles. If most of your riding is within the city, you may be happier with a simpler, more practical model.

Smooth Engine and Great Mileage "The TVS Ronin has an amazing engine performance and delivers a smooth ride. The mileage is impressive for a bike of this size. I’ve been using it for daily commutes and weekend rides, and it’s been a joy to ride.

Facing repairs from day 30 of buying a new one! Button start/auto ignition stops working when asked to customer care I was told to kick start( great....customers are asked to kick start an auto ignition vehicle????)....after a year with same compliant every month I was told by customer service Center people's that the company battery lasts for jus one year(seriously!!) Now I lost faith in TVS and TVS is not genuine now a days according to me!! Won't recommend nor won't buy TVS products anymore!!
