Car Sales May 2021: Tata Motors Reports Domestic Sales Of 24,552 Units Amidst Lockdown

- Tata Motors domestic sales stood at 24,552 units in May 2021
- Passenger vehicle sales stood at 15,181 units, M-o-M decline by 40%
- Commercial vehicles sales stood at 11,401, M-o-M decline by 32%
Tata Motors reported its sales for the month of May 2021, and the Indian auto giant retailed 24,552 units in the domestic market. The automaker's year-on-year volumes witnessed a hike of 456 per cent for the period. However, do note that the lockdown restrictions were in effect in May 2020, which is why the company has seen such a dramatic increase in volumes. Meanwhile, Tata's month-on-month sales saw a 38 per cent drop in volumes with the previous month under lockdown in most parts of India.

Tata's passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market stood at 15,181 units in May this year, witnessing a 382 per cent increment in volumes as against 3152 units sold during the same month last year. On a monthly basis, sales declined by 40 per cent with 25,095 units sold in April 2021. Overall volumes are expected to remain low in June as well due to lockdown-induced plant shutdowns.

Tata has been witnessing strong demand for its passenger car range across segments
In the commercial vehicle segment, Tata recorded a 640 per cent increase in domestic volumes with 9371 units sold last month. In terms of monthly volumes, sales were down by 35 per cent with 14,435 units sold in April this year. CV Exports for May 2021 stood at 2030 units, registering a month-on-month decline of 8 per cent, while annual sales grew by 814 per cent.
Overall, Tata reported a total CV sales declined by 32 per cent with 11,401 units in May this year, as against 16,644 units in April. In comparison, the company sold 1488 units in May 2020.
