Next-Generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio Leaked Via Patent Images

- The new-gen Maruti Suzuki Celerio looks taller, promising a roomy cabin
- The new Celerio is likely to be based on the Heartect platform
- The new-gen Celerio will borrow several features from the WagonR
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is a strong seller for the brand even if it isn't the most enthusiastic option available. It's been on sale for over half a decade now and the automaker is all set to introduce the next-generation version later this year. Ahead of its debut sometime during the festive season, patent images of the new-generation Celerio have made their way online, giving us a glimpse of what the new car will look like. The patent image promises the new Maruti Suzuki Celerio to be larger than the outgoing version with more mature styling.

The new-gen Celerio gets plenty of new bits but retains a familiar profile
The new-generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio seems to have borrowed design and styling cues from other offerings in the Suzuki stable. Notably, there's the new grille with what seems to be a chrome strip in-between that connects the new bug-like headlamps. The bumper is all-new and incorporates fog lamps. The taillight design is reminiscent of the ones on the Baleno with the rear bumper housing the number plate recess and reflectors.
The new-generation Celerio also seems to have grown taller than the existing version that promises better cabin space and glasshouse area, while the wheel design is similar to that available on the previous-generation Swift in India. We also see more pronounced wheel arches, while the absence of a shoulder line gives a more rounded look to the hatchback.

The patent images do not reveal the cabin but previous spy shots have promised a simple yet functional space. Expect to see a three-spoke steering wheel, a new instrument cluster and possibly a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from the Maruti Suzuki WagonR. The cabin will also sport a lot of parts borrowed from other Maruti cars to keep the costs low. Concerning safety, the car will come with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors as standard.

The new-gen Maruti Suzuki Celerio will be based on the Heartect platform that also underpins the WagonR. The model is likely to draw power from the 1.0-litre three-cylinder mill that produces 67 bhp, while Maruti could also offer the 1.2-litre petrol engine with 82 bhp on offer. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit. Maruti will also introduce the new Celerio with a CNG option, which continues to be a popular choice on the current model.

The 2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio will take on the Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago and the WagonR in the segment. Prices could start around Rs. 4.6 lakh, topping off around Rs. 6 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).
