Tata H5X Prototype Spotted Testing In India

- The production version of the Tata H5X has been spotted testing
- The H5X-based SUV seems to be in the early stages of testing
- The SUV could get the Fiat-sourced Multijet II diesel engine
A test mule of the upcoming Tata Motors SUV based on the H5X concept has been spotted testing in India. The prototype of the production version of the Tata H5X was caught on the camera somewhere in Pune, closer to the company production facility on Chakan. The heavy camouflage along with the makeshift headlights and side indicators are clear indications that the SUV is still in the early stages of development. The prototype SUV does come with alloy wheels, although we do not think these are the final production units.

The Tata H5X concept SUV was showcased early this year at the Auto Expo and model is based on the company's all-new 'Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced (OMEGA)' platform. And like the concept model, the production version also seems to come with a beefy front end. Despite the camouflage, we can see that the car comes with a sleek grille, and a wide central air dam and possibly even a front skid plate. Unlike the sleek and sharp ORVMs we saw on the concept model, this prototype gets a larger and plain looking ORVMs, and the slits on the camouflage indicate that they also come with integrated turn signal lights. The SUV will also get s bold shoulder line, which slightly bulges out towards the rear section, while the sloping roof like adds a coupe-like effect.

The production version of the Tata H5X
In terms of dimensions, the H5X is 4,575mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,686 mm in height, and it comes with 2,740 mm wheelbase. The production version of the SUV will also be somewhat similar, judging by how big it looks when compared to the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross that is standing beside the test mule in the picture. The production SUV will be built on Land Rover's L550 platform and the car will be available in the 5 and 7 seater formats.

The production version of the Tata H5X is expected to be launched next year
Under the hood, we expect the SUV to get the Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet II diesel engine that powers the Compass, offered with both a manual and an automatic transmission option. Tata Motors is likely to unveil the production version of the H5X SUV sometime in 2019, and it will be positioned above the Hexa, as the company's new flagship model.
