Tata Motors To Launch CNG Variants This Financial Year

After acing the electric vehicle space with the Nexon EV, Tata Motors has turned its attention towards the CNG space. The company, today said that it will be launching CNG variants on some of its offerings in the country. Speaking at a round table with the media, Shailesh Chandra, PVBU, Tata Motors said, "We are going to launch CNG vehicles this financial year as we see a need for people wanting fuel efficient cars."

The Tiago CNG we captured appeared to be a mid-trim variant featuring new multi-spoke alloy wheels, while the Tigor prototype was a lower-variant, as it gets steel rims.

While there's no clarity on which cars will be available with CNG, we can gauge that the Tiago and the Tigor will certainly be receiving it. We say this with some conviction because we have captured the CNG variants of both these cars when they were out testing. The Tiago CNG we captured appeared to be a mid-trim variant featuring new multi-spoke alloy wheels, while the Tigor prototype was a lower-variant, as it gets steel rims. The cars continue to get the tri-arrow theme on the front grille, projector headlamps, LED DRLs, fog lamps, shark fin antenna, LED high mount stop lamp, LED taillights and more. We expect the cabin to remain unchanged.
It is likely that the Tiago and Tigor CNG will be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol engine as was received by them in January 2020. We expect the manual transmission on both the cars, but Tata might surprise us by introducing an automatic, which will certainly up the value quotient of the cars as none of the cars currently available in the market offer this combination.
