Tata Nexon AMT To Be Available In Petrol & Diesel; Launch By March 2018

Tata Motors launched the Nexon subcompact SUV in India in September this year and the company has already received a great response for the car. At the launch itself we asked about the company bringing in an AMT, it said that there was one on the cards but it will come in the first half of 2018. The spy picture we showed you a while back showed what the car would look like from the inside. But now, there's a bit more information that we have about the car.

The XZA trim will be the one with the AMT
A leaked internal document suggests that the AMT will be offered on both petrol and diesel variants of the Nexon. Also, the Nexon XZA will be offered in a new exterior colour - codenamed Mari Gold, in addition to the existing colours. Tata Motors had promised that its portfolio will see an increased number of cars with automatic transmission and the fact that the Nexon will also come with an AMT is testimony to that.

Tata Nexon AMT Spied testing
The company already has a bunch of cars in its portfolio that are available with an AMT. There's the Nano, Zest, Tigor and Tiago while the Hexa comes with a torque convertor auto-box. So the strategy is quite clear in this scenario.
The Nexon is likely to get the same AMT sourced from Magneti Marelli which currently does duty on the Zest, Tiago, Tigor and the Nano. Currently, there are few choices in the subcompact SUV segment especially if you are looking for one with an automatic gearbox. Currently, the only cars to get an autobox are the Mahindra TUV300 (diesel) and the Ford EcoSport (only petrol), so Tata Motors clearly has a big advantage here as it'll be available in both the petrol and the diesel variants. We expect to drive the AMT variant soon and it's likely that the company will launch the car by March 2018.
