- The 2017 Ninja 1000 gets a 6-axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit)
- The 2017 Ninja1000 makes 140 bhp and 111 Nm of torque
- The ECU (engine control unit) has been re-tuned on the new bike as well
India Kawasaki Motors will launch the new Kawasaki Ninja 1000 in India on 7 July 2017, CarandBike has learnt. The 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 is positioned more as a sport tourer, than an out and out sportbike. The 2017 model carries forward the same engine, chassis and suspension as the model it replaces. The 1043 cc, four-stroke, in-line .four engine makes 140 bhp @ 10,000 rpm and 111 Nm of peak torque at 7,300 rpm. The 2017 model meets the latest emission regulations, so it's Euro 4 compliant, as well as BS-IV ready.
The 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 1000's engine may be the same, but now features a secondary balancer on the crankshaft, which is said to eliminate excessive vibration. The ECU has been re-tuned on the new model too, and it has better ergonomics, though not ramrod straight seating position like proper adventure bikes, or even adventure sport tourers like the Versys 1000. On the design front, the 2017 Ninja 1000 gets wider fairings, a new windscreen, 5-way adjustable clutch lever and seat. The all-new instrument panel features a large analogue tachometer and a multi-function LCD screen with a gear position indicator.
(2017 Kawasaki Ninja 1000)What is significantly improved is the equipment the new Ninja 1000 gets. The new Ninja 1000 gets technology from the supersport ZX-10R, featuring a 6-axis Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU),that includes electronic rider aids such as Kawasaki Cornering Management Function, Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC), and Kawasaki Intelligent anti-lock Brake System (KIBS). Then there is the introduction of three different riding modes, offering enhanced sport riding performance or toned down performance to negotiate slippery surfaces.
In India, the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 has no real competitor, except maybe the Suzuki GSX-S1000F and the BMW R1200RS, but the BMW is priced at a slight premium than both the Suzuki and the current Ninja 1000.
